Does
this describe you? Are you always feeling under the weather? Are
you not always in the mood to be around people and have an enjoyable
time? If you’ve been suffering from prolonged sadness for quite
some time now and experiencing times of depression you need to pull
yourself up long enough to get some help from a doctor who can help
ease your depression. At the very least a doctor can provide you
with some coping mechianisms or prescribe to you a medication that
will help.
The good news is that depression can now be cured, if caught early
enough, depressed people can actually get treatment through therapy
and/or depression medication, it may be a bit costly, but in the
long run your mental health is nothing to short change!
Before
you can actually get a medication which will work for you, you must
see a therapist and get properly diagnosed. There's a range of types
of depression and not one medication is a cure all for every form
of depression. It’s best that you’re sure what form of depression
you're actually dealing with first because there are a variety of
depression medications.
Your
doctor is the best person to decide what medication will work for
you. You may find that as you proceed through your treatment schedule
that he or she may change medications as well, to ensure that your
body isn't becoming use to the medication and that it still has
an effect on your depression and that treatment is actually doing
what it is suppose to. The important thing is to see a doctor first,
DON'T try and fix the situation on your own if grabbing some sort
of medication is what you had in mind. Different drugs work in different
ways and you may find that you are doing more damage in another
area than good. Take the 30 minutes out of your day and get good
sound advice first ... then proceed with what your doctor recommends.
As
with any medications there are some common side-effects and depression
medication is not exempt. Some people tend to ignore the side-effects
that depression medication cause because they feel that breaking
free from depression in the first place is much worth the side effects
the medication brings. It is a personal choice and one that you
and your doctor will decided on. Again, use due-diligence and ask
what the side effects are and see if there is an alternative to
those side effects with a different form of treatment. You could
experience the following side-effects, but remember everyone is
different and our bodies react in different ways to medications.
Be aware of the effects and discuss them with your doctor:
Dry
mouth: always having the irritating feeling of being dehydrated
- have a glass of water nearby or a stick of gum will help alleviate
that feeling.
Constipation:
have your doctor recommend a fibre supplement for you.
Blurry
vision: consult with your doctor if it persists
Headaches:
medications cause your body to change, headaches are a symptom which
could occur. If they are too unbearable again talk to your doctor
Insomnia:
could happen during the first few weeks of taking the depression
medication, ask your doctor to lower your dosage or discuss the
possibility of taking the medication at a different time of day.
The
main thing to remember with taking medication of any time is to
consult with your doctor first and get the low down on medications.
DON'T go off and think you can take matters into your own hands.
