Are You Depressed And Not Even Know It?

There are many symptoms of depression that people may experience and they don't necessarily have to suffer each and every one of them before they are diagnosed as depressed, so don't wait to have them all before you figure that is what you are suffering from, you may have only one or two symptoms while others may have more.

Here are some common examples of symptoms of depression:

Prolonged period of sadness or not feeling "up to it," people who are more often than not feeling in the mood, they would rather mope around and feel sorry for themselves - is the best example of a symptom of depression.

Feeling hopeless, perennial pessimist: speaking of feeling sorry for one’s self, very negative about things.

Another common symptom is feeling like the person has nothing to look forward to in their life.

Guilt, loss of self-worth and helplessness - these as well are symptoms of depression that can be easily recognized in people who prefer to mope around all day long. When a person feels so guilty over something, that it makes them sad and will tend to feel like they don't deserve to be happy. Loss of self-worth, in that a person feels like they aren't worthy of being happy or enjoying anything. Helplessness causes depression when a person assumes that things will never go your way, that they can't get a break.

Isn’t interested enjoying anything, especially things they did at one time enjoy - dropping the hobbies is usually a tell-tale sign that something is up. If a person is too sad or has no energy to enjoy things that they at one time did, then that person is seriously lacking something and needs to get some help.

Fatigue, always tired, all they want to do is sleep - since they’ve lost whatever interest in life that they may have had before both emotionally and physically, it's no surprise that all they want to do is sleep or complain of being tired all the time. Which goes to show that not only is depression a mental thing it also has a detrimental effect on physically.

Troubles concentrating, memory loss and indecisive - if you are struck by depression which just totally drains you on all levels, it is no surprise that there will be problems with concentrating, memory isn't as good and you second guess yourself.

The list of depression symptoms goes on and can include others such as, lacking sleep, sleeping too much or waking up at wee hours of the morning, appetite loss as as well. Be aware of sudden weight loss or weight gain in those around you. Then there are the biggies being suicidal, talking about death, about wanting to die is another clear indication that that person is depressed. Being restless and irritable and physical symptoms will usually bring about other physical symptoms such as headaches, body pains and digestive disorders.

This isn't the end all to be all list of symptoms and as mentioned above, you may know of someone who has a couple or more of these symptoms. If you know of someone who is suffering from the effects of depression, urge them to seek help from a professional.
