Weight

We love to eat. So much so that as a country we have such a high rate of people who are over-weight. You would think that by judging on how much money we spend on fad diets, diet pills and exercise equipment, weight wouldn't be such an issue but unfortunately that isn't the case. Being over-weight or obese isn't just a problem for our country, it is a crisis in other parts of the world as well.

Weight has an affect on our health. Read any medical journal, newspaper article or talk to your doctor and they will tell you that being over-weight contributes to disease. Some heath issues associated with being over-weight are:

  • diabetes,
  • high blood pressure or cholesterol
  • many cancers such as breast, ovary, colon, cervix
  • sleep apnea.

Our society has changed so much over time. We have seen a shift from less physically demanding work, and our leisure time is spent in a more passive manner than ever before. Our food has changed a lot over time as well. The portions are much larger now, less expensive and there is such a variety of "stuff" out there. It's no wonder we are gaining weight with the amounts and kind of food we are eating.

So, what's the answer? The secret is to change our life style by doing a life change on how we eat by portion size and a little exercise each day. We can start by using small short exercise while watching tv or on the computer using dumbbells or cans from the kitchen or face exercises. Here is a simple list of idea’s to remember on a regular basis:

  • Eat less portion sizes.
  • Cut down fats and cholesterol.
  • Exercise just 30min. a day
  • Drink 6-8 glasses a water. Get plenty of sleep

Do a little more than we do physically and of course cutting back on the portions we eat and watching what we are eating will go a long way to helping us feel more healthy!
